Sleeping in separate rooms
It was the first time in 17 years in which we slept in different rooms although we were in the same house. She was still sleeping in the master bedroom when I went to the toilet to remove my contact lenses.
I slept in the study room. It was a small room but it was comfortable.
I did not sleep long as I was woke up at 4am. It was quite cold, I grabbed the blanket to cover more of my body and went to sleep again. And the second time I woke up it was already 6am. It was a Saturday that the children were not going to school. I can easily go back to sleep but instead I woke up to wash up.
I put on my running shoes and went out for a walk. I had a good walk – all of 45 minutes of brisk walking and I felt good. When I reached home, they were still sleeping except for the maid, who was cleaning her car.
Nothing much happened in the morning but I can feel the tension in the house. We hardly spoke to one another, in fact we did not speak to each other at all – as if we were strangers. Then she brought the two children (F and S) out.
At around 5pm, she SMS me asking me to join them for dinner. I have no mood for dinner but not wanting to upset her I drove and brought the maid and the little one to join them for dinner.
The atmosphere at the dinning table was very tense. We hardly exchange any words or glances. I felt terribly uneasy and thought that I would cry, but I didn’t. And after dinner, I brought F (and S) to buy a MP3 player – using their mother’s money. Then we went home.
She was again hiding in the master bedroom. And I retreated to the study room.. Another day will be passing me by.
We still have not told the children yet about the separation. I told her to tell the children that she will be doing a project and needed to be away for 2 weeks. And we will tell the children 2 weeks later. I also agreed to spend CNY together as a family – possibly the last CNY that we can spend together.
Overall, it was not a very good day as I can feel the tension. But somehow I managed to get by till the end of the day.
